COMMISSIONING A PORTRAIT

Paintings are unique gifts that last a lifetime and can add something special to your home. I have been taking commissions ever since I left college and I work in various styles and mediums. I do group portraits, single portraits, pet portraits or any other custom work as required. For portrait work, I mostly use photographs but can do live sittings as well.

Portraits from life will take a number of hours, which would be split into a number of sessions. I am happy to work in this way, however, for ease and convenience, most people prefer instead to send me a selection of photographs. The work I produce will be a painted replica of the chosen photograph.

Please think carefully about the photos you send – it is very important to have a clear, high quality image as the basis of your painting. Alternatively, you can arrange a date for me to come and take photos for you. I will paint in a style you prefer, so if you want to give me examples of work you like, I can accommodate most specifications. This is an important part of the commissioning process – to ensure that you are happy with the finished product, it is helpful to get as much instruction from you as possible in the beginning.

I am happy to consult with you at various stages of the work to check that you are happy with the results. If changes or adaptions need to be made then I can also accommodate these.

Once the specification and price has been agreed, I usually ask for a 50% deposit at that point, with receipt of the remaining 50% of the fee upon completion of the work. However, I am happy to discuss more flexible payment options.

To discuss your commission requirements, you can meet me in person at my studio, or drop me an email (ceri@ceriannlittlechild.co.uk). I’ll be happy to answer any questions you might have and will ensure that I understand what you require before undertaking your painting or drawing.
